Gym Bag Essentials

Why is packing a gym bag so important? It allows you to go confidently into your workouts knowing you have everything you need before, during, and after your session. When it comes to getting your gym bag together, the best piece of advice we can give you is to have it ready in advance. Being prepared helps you avoid feeling rushed, stressed, or overwhelmed when it comes time to go to the gym. We know there are days when finding the motivation to workout is hard enough, so making sure you have everything together may be the extra boost in accountability you need. 

At JCORE Fitness, we are here to help you feel comfortable and confident in the gym. Fitness journeys take time and effort, but we want to be a catalyst in helping you set and achieve your goals. Getting everything together to hit the gym doesn’t need to be a difficult experience but finding that balance in what you need and will use may take some time. From pre- to post-workout, we have compiled a quick checklist of seven gym bag essentials that are absolute musts!

Essential #1: Gym Sneakers

While this one may seem like a no-brainer, we have unfortunately seen these be forgotten one too many times. There is nothing worse than getting all the way to the gym and realizing you forgot to pack your sneakers or trainers. How are you supposed to get through any workout without the proper footwear? We made sure these found themselves at the top of our checklist, just so you’ll never have to come across this dilemma. With that being said, do not forget your socks either! Some gyms try to charge you for those thin socks that fall off your heel; don’t let them get away with that!

Essential #2: Headphones

Headphones are a must. This one may be just as bad, if not worse than forgetting your sneakers. Motivating music can be the difference between a good workout and an amazing workout. Whether it be the in-ear or over-the-ear style headphones, don’t forget to throw these in your bag before you leave! 

Essential #3: Deodorant

There are many important reasons to be mindful that you aren’t the only one in the gym working out – including hygiene. When it comes to body odor, remember the feeling is mutual. You don’t want to smell other’s and they don’t want to smell yours. We suggest using an antiperspirant providing long lasting sweat protection. We promise packing deodorant will make for a better gym experience for everyone involved.  

Essential #4: Microfiber Towel

If you haven’t already been packing a towel in your gym bag, now is your time to start! A gym towel is a life changer, especially in the summertime. It is the quickest and most efficient way to clean the sweat off your body while also being light weight and compact. Many fitness and wellness companies create small, microfiber towels perfect for tossing in your gym bag. 

Essential #5: Dry Shampoo

Let’s say your gym doesn’t have community showers or you prefer showering at home: dry shampoo is your answer. Dry shampoo is a quick and easy product to spray in your hair following your workout to combat dirty, sweaty hair. It helps soak up excess oils and sweat from your hair strands while adding volume to your roots!

Essential #6: Reusable Water Bottle 

Staying hydrated is essential during workouts, so make sure to keep a water bottle close by during your workout. We recommend using a reusable water bottle, such as a Hydro Flask, as they are better for the environment and keep your water colder for longer.
PRO TIP: Vacuum insulated stainless steel water bottles are the best! The provide the ideal solution: keeping your drink of choice at the temperature you want it to stay throughout the day. Most vacuum sealed water bottles are double-walled, which prevents condensation forming on the exterior of the carrier. 

Essential #7: A Snack

Have you ever experienced being lightheaded or “seeing stars” after finishing a workout? One of the best ways to heal your body following a workout is by having a light, protein-filled snack. We suggest you pack either a protein bar or a small bag of nuts to keep your blood sugar in check and help speed up the healing process.
